My Newest Obsession

I have been obsessing for about a week now about what diapers to use when the new LO comes. I know I want to do cloth. I think I want to do hybrids, because we travel a lot and it would be nice to have the choice of a cloth or disposable insert.

Now I just need to see the GroVia's in person and make a decision:
These:

 Or these:

Have you tried either? What did you like or not like about them?

Cloth diapering is so funny, it's so addicting to get the newest, cutest options! Everyone I know who cloth diapers is the same way--gets obsessed about buying the next big thing. Cloth diapering is so easy, I wish more people would try it. The recent Pampers problems has really pushed me to avoid disposables as much as possible!

  1. I used G-diapers for a time. They aren't nearly as absorbent as disposables because there aren't any chemicals to absorb the wetness.

But I like that they're eco-friendly...and totally cute!

  2. I tried to cloth diaper... Problem was, I didnt have the money to buy a good supply of gooood diapers.. I bought cheapies made in China off Ebay and they leaked.. Plus I did so much laundry that my water bill was crazy and Im sure with all the prewashing, rinsing, rerinsing, soaking stages that has to be done every time, lots of water was being wasted.. Glad you are giving it a try though!

  3. I have been using the flip system recently and they are great! I use a combination of prefolds and flip inserts and this works well. I think the prefolds, which are super inexpensive, keep baby from staying TOO dry, while the flip inserts are great for napping and overnight (until or if there are issues with heavy wetting or, like us, yeast rash). They are inexpensive, although I would reccomend at least 6-8 covers as newborn poo is more likely to get on the cover than after they start solids. But if you bought 2 day packs, 4 more covers, and a couple dozen prefolds, the cost is still really low, especially compared to more expensive options!

A friend of mine uses gro baby and loves them, so I would look for a sale on them if you want to try. Both flip and gro baby have disposable options too, which is nice, but I haven't heard great things about either disposables.

I find it easy to use them for 2-3 days before doing a wash. We only have 4 covers, 8 flip inserts, and a dozen prefolds, plus some other random inserts from other systems.

But either way, I would buy some 7th gen or earth's best newborn or size 1 diapers for the first couple of weeks. No harm, especially with a chlorine-free, in using them while you get used to the chaos of a newborn in addition to a toddler!

the best thing about natural fibers is that washing is super easy. I have never had any leaks and we have been using cloth since Jack was a newborn.
